The Indonesian government has set 18 public holidays and 8 collective leave days for 2027. Together with weekends they create several long breaks, the longest being ten days around Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr in March. Here are the dates, and why they matter if you need a visa extension. Our Holiday Calendar shows them all on one page, with an export to your phone's calendar.
- 18 public holidays and 8 collective leave days in 2027, set by joint decree of three ministers on 15 September 2026.
- Longest break: 10 days, Saturday 6 to Monday 15 March 2027 (Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr).
- Nyepi, Bali's Day of Silence, falls on Monday 8 March 2027.
- Eid al-Fitr: 10 and 11 March; Eid al-Adha: 17 May 2027. These dates are confirmed by the Minister of Religious Affairs shortly before.
- Immigration and other government offices close on public holidays and, as a rule, on collective leave days.

Collective leave days 2027
Collective leave (cuti bersama) days are added next to holidays to make longer breaks: Friday 5 February (Chinese New Year), Tuesday 9, Friday 12 and Monday 15 March (Eid al-Fitr), Thursday 25 March (Good Friday), Tuesday 18 May (Eid al-Adha), Wednesday 19 May (Vesak) and Friday 24 December (Christmas). Government offices close; private companies decide for themselves, and the day counts against annual leave.
Long weekends in 2027
- 10 days, 6 to 15 March: Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr. Expect very busy airports and closed offices.
- 6 days, 15 to 20 May: Eid al-Adha and Vesak.
- 4 days, 25 to 28 March: Good Friday and Easter.
- 3 days: 1 to 3 January, 5 to 7 February and 24 to 26 December.
Bali's Hindu holy days in 2027
Only Nyepi is a national holiday. Other Hindu holy days are optional days off for Hindu employees across Indonesia, but in Bali most people take part, so offices and businesses often run with fewer staff. In 2027 Galungan falls on 13 January and 11 August, and Kuningan on 23 January and 21 August. The day before Nyepi, 7 March, is Tawur Agung Kesanga with its Ogoh-ogoh parades.
What it means for your visa
Extensions are filed online but usually need a visit to an immigration office for biometrics, and offices close on these days. If your stay ends between early and mid-March 2027, apply at the very start of your extension window, which opens 14 days before your stay ends. Our Visa Calculator shows your window, and the Holiday Calendar shows the closures.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nyepi a holiday in the whole of Indonesia?
Yes. Nyepi is a national public holiday. In Bali the whole island stays at home for 24 hours, and in 2026 Bali's airport closed for the same 24 hours.
Can the Eid dates change?
Yes, by a day. The Minister of Religious Affairs confirms them after the moon sighting shortly before each holiday. In 2026 they matched the decree.
Do private companies have to give collective leave days?
No. The decree leaves collective leave in the private sector to each employer, and a collective leave day counts against annual leave.
