Indonesia does not allow dual citizenship, which has long been a problem for Indonesians who took another nationality and for their children. In January 2026 the Directorate General of Immigration introduced the Global Citizen of Indonesia (GCI): a stay permit with no time limit for the diaspora, former citizens and their families.
- Launched in January 2026 by the Directorate General of Immigration.
- A permanent stay permit; the holder reports in person every 5 years.
- For former citizens (E32E), former citizens with special expertise (E32F) and descendants of former citizens up to the second degree (E32G, E32H), as well as spouses and children of Indonesians.
- Income of at least USD 1,500 a month or USD 15,000 a year.
- It is a stay permit, not citizenship.

Requirements
The standard route needs proof of income of at least USD 1,500 a month or USD 15,000 a year, and an investment commitment that is much lower than for the Golden Visa. It can be met with Indonesian government bonds, shares, mutual funds, deposits or property. Applicants on the special expertise route do not need to show an investment; instead they need proof of income and an invitation letter guaranteed by the central government.
How long it lasts
The GCI permit has no end date. The only obligation is to report to immigration in person every five years.
