Frequently asked questions

Which visa do I need for a holiday in Bali?
Citizens of the 19 visa-free countries can stay 30 days without a visa (A1). Most other visitors use the Visa on Arrival or e-VoA (B1): 30 days plus one 30-day extension. For up to 180 days, apply for the C1 visitor visa before you travel.
Can I work in Indonesia on a visitor visa?
No. Visitor visas allow meetings, buying goods and similar activities, but not a job with an Indonesian employer. Working needs a work KITAS (E23 family), sponsored by your employer. Working remotely for a company abroad has its own KITAS (E33G).
What is the difference between a visa and a KITAS?
A visa lets you enter Indonesia for a purpose. A KITAS is the limited stay permit you hold while living here, usually for 1 to 2 years, or 5 to 10 years for the Golden Visa and some long-stay visas. A KITAP is the permanent stay permit that some KITAS holders can move to later.
What changed in the Indonesian visa system in 2025?
From June 2025 the number of visa types fell from 133 to 110. Business and medical visits were merged into the visa exemption (A1) and Visa on Arrival (B1), the 20 sector work visas became one work KITAS (E23), and new indices were added, for example C7C for performers and E28F and E28G for investors. In January 2026 the Global Citizen of Indonesia programme started.
Can I change my visa without leaving Indonesia?
It depends on the visa. A visa exemption cannot be extended or changed inside Indonesia. Some visitor visas and KITAS can be converted or renewed in the country. Tell us your current visa and plans and we will check what is possible.
