In 2025 the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections reorganised the Indonesian visa system under Decree No. M.IP-08.GR.01.01 of 2025 on visa classification. The number of visa types fell from 133 to 110. Many visas you may have read about, such as separate business or sector work visas, no longer exist as separate categories. Here is what changed.
- Visa types reduced from 133 to 110 under Decree M.IP-08.GR.01.01 of 2025.
- Business and short medical visits merged into the visa exemption (A1) and the Visa on Arrival (B1).
- The 20 sector work visas E23B to E23W became one work KITAS, E23. Work visa types fell from 31 to 6.
- New indices include C7C (arts, culture and skills), E28F (investors in Nusantara, the new capital), E28G (parent company representatives) and E23U and E23V (non-corporate sponsors).
Fewer, broader visit visas
Before the change, tourism, business and medical visits each had their own index. Now the visa exemption (A1) covers tourism, family visits, meetings, exhibitions and transit for up to 30 days, and the Visa on Arrival (B1) covers tourism, family visits and meetings, valid for 30 days and extendable once. On the official e-Visa site the C1 visa covers tourism, family visits, transit and attending meetings or exhibitions as a participant, for 60 days, extendable. Business trips have their own C2 visa, and medical treatment has C3.
One work KITAS instead of twenty
Foreign experts sponsored by a company used to choose between 20 indices by sector, from E23B to E23W. They now all apply for E23. Work for non-corporate sponsors has its own indices, E23U and E23V. According to the Directorate General of Immigration, the number of work visa types went from 31 to 6.
New indices
- C7C: arts, culture and skills activities other than music, for example magic shows, fan meetings and chef demonstrations on television.
- E28F: foreign investors in Ibu Kota Nusantara, the new capital.
- E28G: representatives posted by a foreign parent company to its Indonesian branch.
- E23U and E23V: work sponsored by non-corporate bodies such as foreign chambers of commerce or diplomats' households.
Long-stay visas you can still apply for
The investor visas (E28A to E28D), the special expertise visa (E33B), the retirement visas (E33E and E33F) and the remote worker KITAS (E33G) remain. The Bontang immigration office lists, for example, the remote worker KITAS for 1 year with an income of at least USD 60,000 a year, and the 5-year retirement visa for people aged 55 or over with a USD 50,000 deposit and USD 3,000 income a month.
