Hindu holy days in 2026 are not listed apart from Deepavali; the 2027 list is the one confirmed by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Eid dates are confirmed by the Minister of Religious Affairs shortly before each holiday.
Immigration closes too
Immigration and other government offices close on public holidays and, as a rule, on collective leave days. Plan biometrics appointments and passport collection around them.
Nyepi stops Bali
For 24 hours from 6 am on Nyepi the island stays at home. In 2026 the airport closed for the same 24 hours. Do not plan to arrive, leave or extend that day.
Extend before the break
Extensions are filed from 14 days before your stay ends and need an office visit. If your stay ends around Eid al-Fitr or Christmas, apply at the start of that window.
Frequently asked questions
What is cuti bersama (collective leave)?
Days off that the government adds next to some public holidays to make longer breaks. Government offices close. Private companies decide for themselves, and a collective leave day counts against the employee's annual leave.
Are Galungan and Kuningan public holidays in Bali?
Nationally, Nyepi is the only Hindu public holiday. Galungan, Kuningan, Saraswati, Pagerwesi and other Hindu holy days are optional holidays for Hindu employees across Indonesia. In Bali most people take part, so many offices and businesses run with fewer staff or close. The Governor of Bali announces the exact days off each year.
Can the dates of Eid change?
The dates of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are confirmed by the Minister of Religious Affairs after the moon sighting (sidang isbat), shortly before each holiday, so they can move by a day. In 2026 they matched the dates in the decree.
Are immigration offices open on collective leave days?
Usually not: immigration is a government office and follows the collective leave days. Book your biometrics appointment or passport collection on a working day before or after the break.
What happens in Bali on Nyepi?
Nyepi is the Balinese Day of Silence. For 24 hours, from 6 am, the island stays at home: no traffic, no work, no lights at night, and visitors stay in their hotels. In 2026 Bali's airport closed for the same 24 hours.
